This tattoo is a Day of the Dead piece. The Words are mine. "There is forever in the sunshine. But the Earth remembers." It has a few different layers to the meaning. Day of the Dead ( Día de los Muertos, November 1 and 2) is about the celebration of the lives we've shared together, and knowing in comfort that we will be reunited with our loved ones on the other side. There is forever in the sunshine. We go on from here, together. But here on Earth, we miss those that have gone on ahead of us. The Earth remembers.
Additionally, I want people to realize how much their time here means. The Earth will remember you. You make a mark. You leave an imprint. You may be going on from here, this may be only a stop along your path, for you will forever be in the sunshine.
But the Earth, my friends... the Earth will remember you. You have a chance to leave something positive behind. The things you do, the Words you say; it counts. It matters.
The image of the eternal embrace was a tenth anniversary tribute to my husband, who I will be with forever in the sunshine.
The ravens have many meanings in many cultures. in Pacific North West Eskimo folklore, they are the keepers of the sun.

Wow that is an amazing tattoo. Love it. I wondered about the quote, I had interpreted it differently- that the sunshine was the future, hope and looking forward, and the earth: the past; the good and bad you have done and experienced. I like the meaning you described though.
Thanks Wendy.
You're interpretation is the same, just more linear, and you've put yourself at a certain spot on the time line, that's all. Beautiful. I love the power of Words. They speak to all of us differently, and universally, at the same time.
The photos are fantastic and the explanation is even more so. Thanks for sharing this. I love, as always, the Words you chose to explain your quote. It's hauntingly beautiful and like so much of what you do, so inspiring.
I've been working on this tattoo for a long time, and I was so excited to have it finished just in time for Day of the Dead this year, and for our tenth wedding anniversary vow renewal.
which side is up? I've been looking and looking and I can't decide which is the top and which is the bottom of your forearm?
The eternal embrace is on the inner forearm, if I were to show you the palm of my hand, you'd see it. The Fountain pen and ribbon with the quote is on the outer part of my forearm, if I showed you the back of my hand you'd see it.
As I'm standing, the ink is all correct, bottom of the pieces are at the wrist, top of the pieces are at the elbow.
Does that clear it up?
Thanks for checking it out.
